The Critical Role of Silicone Oil
Treadmill belt lubricant is a specialized, 100% pure silicone oil applied between the running belt and the deck. Unlike petroleum-based products (which degrade rubber and plastic), pure silicone maintains structural integrity while providing an ultra-slick microscopic barrier.
The Cost of Skipping Lubrication
- Severe Friction: The belt drags against the deck, causing erratic movement and heat buildup.
- Motor Burnout: The drive motor draws excessive amps to overcome friction, leading to premature failure of the motor and control board.
- Accelerated Wear: The expensive running belt frays and the phenolic deck surface delaminates rapidly.
Selecting the Right Viscosity
Different equipment demands different flow rates. We formulate to exact centistoke (cSt) specifications.
350 cSt
Thinner consistency. Flows quickly and spreads rapidly. Ideal for treadmills with auto-lubrication system.
- ✓ High spreadability
- ✓ Light duty applications
- ✓ Requires frequent reapplication
1000 cSt
The mainstream industry choice. Thicker consistency that clings tenaciously to the belt, resisting being squeezed out under heavy footfalls.
- ✓ Maximum adhesion & longevity
- ✓ Heavy-duty & commercial use
- ✓ Superior shock absorption
500 cSt
A balanced flow rate offering a middle ground between spreadability and longevity. Suitable for standard home usage.
- ✓ Balanced performance
- ✓ Standard home equipment
- ✓ Moderate maintenance cycle
Performance Benefits
Ultra-Low Friction
Dramatically reduces the drag coefficient, ensuring smooth, stutter-free belt operation under heavy loads.
Noise Reduction
Eliminates squeaks, squeals, and grinding noises, providing a quieter environment for facilities and homes.
Motor Protection
Prevents the drive motor from overworking and drawing high amps, saving expensive control boards from burning out.
Extended Lifespan
Highly stable formula, ensure long-lasting lubrication, preserves the integrity of the phenolic deck coating and the fabric backing of the walking belt.
Non-Toxic & Oldless
100% pure silicone oil (No petroleum), ECO formula, safe for all treadmills and indoor environments.
Zero Carbon Deposit
Leaves no sticky residue or carbon buildup, keeping the deck clean and preventing debris accumulation.

HOW to Lubricate Your Treadmill Belt
A simple, 4-step process to maintain peak performance.
Power Off & Prep
Always unplug the equipment first. Loosen the rear roller bolts slightly if the belt is too tight to lift.
Clean & Lift the Belt
Clean and lift the edge of the running belt near the center of the deck, where foot impact is highest.
Apply Lubricant
Squeeze approximately 0.5 oz (15ml) of silicone oil in a zigzag pattern under one side. Repeat on the other side.
Distribute Evenly
Retighten the belt. Plug in, turn on at a slow speed (1-2 mph), and walk on it for 3-5 minutes to spread the oil evenly.
Maintenance Schedule
Consistent application is key to preventing catastrophic equipment failure.
| Usage Level | Frequency | Recommended Interval |
|---|---|---|
| Light Use | Less than 3 hours / week | Every 6 Months |
| Medium Use | 3 to 5 hours / week | Every 3 Months |
| Heavy / Commercial Use | More than 5 hours / week | Every Month |
The Touch Test: Slide your hand under the center of the belt. If the deck feels slightly oily or damp and slick, it's fine. If it feels dry and dusty, it's time to lubricate immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Expert answers to the most common queries regarding treadmill maintenance and lubrication.
Ask an ExpertFailing to lubricate causes extreme friction between the belt and deck. This leads to erratic belt movement, rapid wear of the deck surface, and forces the motor to draw excessive power, which frequently results in motor or control board burnout.
Absolutely not. Standard WD-40 and petroleum-based oils will aggressively degrade the rubber belt and plastic components. Cooking oils will turn sticky, rot, and attract dirt. You must use 100% pure silicone oil.
For a standard application, use approximately 30ml in total—about 0.5oz per side. Over-lubricating can cause the belt to slip on the drive rollers.
Reach under the center of the walking belt. If the deck feels dry, dusty, or rough, it needs immediate lubrication. If it feels slightly damp and slick, it is currently well-lubricated.
Most silicone sprays contain solvents and propellants that evaporate quickly. They provide short-term lubrication only. Liquid 100% silicone oil offers longer-lasting and more controlled application.
The best treadmill belt lubricant is 100% pure silicone oil designed specifically for treadmills. It should be non-petroleum and safe for rubber belts and deck surfaces. Most treadmills use silicone oil in the 500–1000 cSt range, with 1000 cSt being the most common. Avoid grease or multi-purpose oils.
Most home treadmills should be lubricated every 3 months or after 40–100 hours of use. Heavy use may require more frequent lubrication. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
