What Is PTFE Grease?
PTFE grease is a lubricating grease enhanced with polytetrafluoroethylene (commonly known as PTFE). PTFE works as a solid boundary lubricant and friction modifier, helping reduce friction, wear and sticking between moving surfaces. Depending on the base oil and thickener system, PTFE grease can be used for plastic gears, metal slides, bearings, O-rings, seals, food machinery and general maintenance applications.
Note: PTFE grease is not one single formula. The final performance depends on the base oil, thickener, PTFE content, NLGI grade, temperature range and material compatibility.
Low-Friction Lubrication
PTFE helps reduce sliding friction between plastic, rubber and metal contact surfaces.
Wear Protection
PTFE particles can support lubrication under boundary and mixed-friction conditions.
Water & Corrosion Resistance
Selected PTFE grease formulas can help protect components exposed to moisture or humid environments.
Food-Grade Support
NSF H1 support can be discussed for applicable food-grade PTFE grease formulas.

| When to Choose | When low friction, wear protection and clean movement are needed | When sealing, water resistance and rubber compatibility matter | When standard industrial lubrication is enough | When conventional grease fails under extreme conditions |
PTFE Grease
Role: Low-friction and wear-reducing lubrication.
Best For: Plastic gears, slides, bearings, O-rings.
When to choose: Need low friction, wear protection and clean movement.
Silicone Grease
Role: Rubber/plastic lubrication, sealing.
Best For: O-rings, seals, valves, waterproofing.
When to choose: Need sealing, water resistance and rubber compatibility.
PFPE Grease
Role: Extreme condition resistance.
Best For: Semiconductor, vacuum, high-value precision.
When to choose: Conventional grease fails under extreme conditions.
How to Choose the Right PTFE Grease
Engineering considerations for selecting the correct base oil, additives and packaging.
Contact Materials
Confirm whether the parts are plastic, rubber, metal, O-rings, seals, elastomers or mixed materials. PTFE helps reduce friction, but base oil compatibility still matters.
Load & Speed
Light-load plastic gears, sliding rails, bushings and bearings may require different NLGI grades, base oil viscosity and anti-wear additives.
Temperature Range
Check continuous and peak temperature. PTFE grease for appliances, food equipment or heated parts should be selected by actual working temperature.
Water & Humidity
For valves, seals, outdoor equipment or food machinery, water resistance and corrosion protection may be important.
Food-Grade Requirement
If the grease is used near food machinery, check whether NSF H1 support, MSDS, TDS, RoHS and REACH documents are required.
Packaging & Application
Choose tube, syringe, jar, cartridge, sachet or bulk packaging according to manual application, precision dispensing, grease gun use or private-label retail.

When PTFE Grease May Not Be the Right Choice
Ensure safe and effective application by avoiding these common misunderstandings.
Not Always Suitable for Every Plastic
PTFE helps reduce friction, but the base oil and additives still need compatibility testing with the actual material.
Not the Same as PFPE Grease
PTFE grease contains PTFE additive. PFPE grease uses perfluoropolyether base oil and is selected for extreme chemical or oxygen environments.
Not Always for Extreme High Temp
For very high temperature, oxygen or aggressive chemical exposure, PFPE grease or specialized high-temperature grease may be more suitable.
Do Not Mix with Unknown Grease
Clean old grease before changing lubricant type to avoid compatibility issues between different base oils or thickeners.
Avoid Over-Application
Too much grease may attract dust, increase drag or contaminate nearby parts. Apply only a thin, even film.
Do Not Assume Food Grade
Only selected formulas can support food-grade requirements. Confirm NSF H1 support and documents before use in food-related equipment.
