what is PTFE grease with low friction PTFE particles

What Is PTFE Grease?

PTFE grease is a lubricating grease enhanced with polytetrafluoroethylene (commonly known as PTFE). PTFE works as a solid boundary lubricant and friction modifier, helping reduce friction, wear and sticking between moving surfaces. Depending on the base oil and thickener system, PTFE grease can be used for plastic gears, metal slides, bearings, O-rings, seals, food machinery and general maintenance applications.

Note: PTFE grease is not one single formula. The final performance depends on the base oil, thickener, PTFE content, NLGI grade, temperature range and material compatibility.

Low-Friction Lubrication

PTFE helps reduce sliding friction between plastic, rubber and metal contact surfaces.

Wear Protection

PTFE particles can support lubrication under boundary and mixed-friction conditions.

Water & Corrosion Resistance

Selected PTFE grease formulas can help protect components exposed to moisture or humid environments.

Food-Grade Support

NSF H1 support can be discussed for applicable food-grade PTFE grease formulas.

PTFE Grease vs Silicone Grease vs Lithium Grease vs PFPE Grease

Understand the differences to select the correct lubricant for your OEM project.

PTFE Grease

Role: Low-friction and wear-reducing lubrication.

Best For: Plastic gears, slides, bearings, O-rings.

When to choose: Need low friction, wear protection and clean movement.

Silicone Grease

Role: Rubber/plastic lubrication, sealing.

Best For: O-rings, seals, valves, waterproofing.

When to choose: Need sealing, water resistance and rubber compatibility.

PFPE Grease

Role: Extreme condition resistance.

Best For: Semiconductor, vacuum, high-value precision.

When to choose: Conventional grease fails under extreme conditions.

How to Choose the Right PTFE Grease

Engineering considerations for selecting the correct base oil, additives and packaging.

Contact Materials

Confirm whether the parts are plastic, rubber, metal, O-rings, seals, elastomers or mixed materials. PTFE helps reduce friction, but base oil compatibility still matters.

Load & Speed

Light-load plastic gears, sliding rails, bushings and bearings may require different NLGI grades, base oil viscosity and anti-wear additives.

Temperature Range

Check continuous and peak temperature. PTFE grease for appliances, food equipment or heated parts should be selected by actual working temperature.

Water & Humidity

For valves, seals, outdoor equipment or food machinery, water resistance and corrosion protection may be important.

Food-Grade Requirement

If the grease is used near food machinery, check whether NSF H1 support, MSDS, TDS, RoHS and REACH documents are required.

Packaging & Application

Choose tube, syringe, jar, cartridge, sachet or bulk packaging according to manual application, precision dispensing, grease gun use or private-label retail.

When PTFE Grease May Not Be the Right Choice

Ensure safe and effective application by avoiding these common misunderstandings.

Not Always Suitable for Every Plastic

PTFE helps reduce friction, but the base oil and additives still need compatibility testing with the actual material.

Not the Same as PFPE Grease

PTFE grease contains PTFE additive. PFPE grease uses perfluoropolyether base oil and is selected for extreme chemical or oxygen environments.

Not Always for Extreme High Temp

For very high temperature, oxygen or aggressive chemical exposure, PFPE grease or specialized high-temperature grease may be more suitable.

Do Not Mix with Unknown Grease

Clean old grease before changing lubricant type to avoid compatibility issues between different base oils or thickeners.

Avoid Over-Application

Too much grease may attract dust, increase drag or contaminate nearby parts. Apply only a thin, even film.

Do Not Assume Food Grade

Only selected formulas can support food-grade requirements. Confirm NSF H1 support and documents before use in food-related equipment.

PTFE Grease Questions Buyers Often Ask

Technical answers to help you understand and specify PTFE grease.

What is PTFE grease?
PTFE grease is lubricating grease enhanced with polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as PTFE. PTFE acts as a solid boundary lubricant and friction modifier, helping reduce friction, wear and sticking between moving surfaces. The final performance depends on the base oil, thickener, PTFE content, NLGI grade and application conditions.
What is PTFE grease used for?
PTFE grease is used for plastic gears, bearings, bushings, sliding rails, O-rings, seals, valves, home appliances, food machinery and precision mechanisms. It is selected when low friction, wear protection, smooth movement or cleaner lubrication is required.
Is PTFE grease safe for plastic?
PTFE can help reduce friction on plastic parts, but plastic compatibility depends on the complete grease formula, especially the base oil and additives. Before bulk use, the grease should be tested on the actual plastic material, such as ABS, POM, nylon, PC, PP or rubber-modified plastics.
Is PTFE grease the same as silicone grease?
No. PTFE grease refers to grease containing PTFE as a friction-reducing additive or thickener. Silicone grease uses silicone oil as the base oil. Some products can be silicone grease with PTFE, which combines silicone oil properties with PTFE-enhanced low-friction performance.
Is PTFE grease the same as PFPE grease?
No. PTFE grease contains PTFE additive or thickener, but the base oil may be synthetic oil, silicone oil, mineral oil or food-grade oil. PFPE grease uses perfluoropolyether base oil and is selected for extreme oxygen, vacuum, chemical or high-temperature applications.
Can PTFE grease be food grade?
Yes, selected PTFE grease formulas can support food-grade applications with NSF H1-related documentation. However, not every PTFE grease is food grade. Buyers should confirm the selected formula, document status and application area before use in food machinery.
Can PTFE grease be used on O-rings?
PTFE grease can be used on selected O-rings and seals when the base oil and additives are compatible with the elastomer material. Food equipment, water-contact seals or rubber/plastic assemblies should be tested before mass use.
What NLGI grade should I choose for PTFE grease?
NLGI grade depends on the application method and lubrication point. NLGI 2 is common for general grease applications, while lower grades may be better for syringes, small mechanisms, automatic dispensing or softer application feel. Morelic can discuss NLGI 0, 1, 1.5, 2 or customized consistency.
Can Morelic make private-label PTFE grease?
Yes. Morelic supports private-label PTFE grease in sachets, tubes, syringes, jars, cartridges, pails and repair kits. Label design, tube printing, carton layout, barcode area, TDS/MSDS and export documents can be prepared according to the project.
Can Morelic develop a Super Lube alternative PTFE grease?
Morelic can support PTFE grease alternative projects based on a target product, reference sample, TDS comparison, application data and customer testing. We do not claim an identical formula, but we can prepare replacement alternatives for specific application targets after technical review.
